Sketches through EuropeA drawing creates a memory place in time. Some of these sketches were based on merely that, a memory. Sitting on the train or bus, leaving one incredible place to shortly arrive at the next, I would take time to reflect through sketching. Other times, if I had the opportunity and a few extra minutes, I would sit and create a memory as a moved throughout Europe. By drawing within the space I was observing, it forced me to take in all of the intricacies and details through all my senses. To this day, I can still put myself in the room with Il David in the Galleria dell' Accademia, or at the foothills off Assisi looking up at St. Francis for the first time, or sitting next to a Canal in Venice in Scarpa's Fondazione Quirini-Stampalia. Sketching isn't only a tool for visualization, it helps establish a vision and a memory, it is up to the author to portray and evoke the emotional qualities they perceived.
